“每日运动一小时”打卡活动助你保持健康身材,

“外教口语一对一”交流活动帮你提升英语听说能力。



为了提高同学们的英语听说能力,让大家敢说、会说、愿意说,学院自本学期初起提供了每周三次的“外教口语一对一”互动交流机会,同学们踊跃报名,积极参加,截至目前已有五十余名同学参与到了这个活动中,我们来听听TA们的反馈吧!


同学们说


卢杉同学

认识到了自己的漏洞,也亲身接触到更地道的英语,以及国外的生活习惯和说话方式。老师会用汉语活跃气氛,以轻松的氛围开启话题;通过与Kim老师用英语交流发现了自己的一些问题,一些话题需要老师重复几遍才能理解,关于这方面还需要自己多加练习。个人建议提前5分钟对特定的知话题打腹稿。


张天宇同学

收获很大,这个活动使我更加熟悉了国外的思维方式,认识到许多文化差异。Kim老师很会化解尴尬,提出的问题贴近生活;并且能给我们提出个性意见,针对性强,及时性高,效果非常好。


曹子涵同学

老师给我们展示了地道的英语发音与国外的生活文化,对我们口语帮助较大。线上互动和线下交流的效果都很好,个人倾向线下;Kim老师的问题很有趣,活动氛围较轻松,非常善解人意。


赵博宇同学

收获很大,通过这个交流机会,我变得敢于主动开口说英语了,并且学到了很多地道的英语口语表达方法。线上线下都可以,我更喜欢线下方式,一对一的对话方式加上放松的环境使得效果翻倍。


张馨月同学

挺有收获的,与外教交流更有代入感,需要更注重思考语法的应用。起初有些紧张,但在和蔼的Tom老师的帮助下,我逐渐放松,慢慢找到状态。


方震宇同学

这个活动真实模拟了考场环境,能够更认真的去思考和表达;我在准备内容过程中学习到了一些专有名词和口语表达方式。个人在一对一交流时会有点紧迫感,但也会有成就感,更易于锻炼自己的心态,交流时做到条理更清晰。自己会花1h时间准备对话内容,思考key words,再查询一些专有词汇,也会去有意锻炼语言组织能力,提升自己的临场能力。


高嵩同学

这个活动对于自己的话题构思非常有帮助,从中我学习到了更地道的词汇表达。Eddy老师的交流气氛比较轻松融洽,整体对话过程流利顺畅。20min准备的key words,基本能够全部运用到对话中,效果很棒。


刘俊廷同学

与外教的交流和对话不仅需要在话题开始前10min思考和准备,更需要依靠临场发挥。这个活动提升了我的逻辑思维和语言组织能力,使自己的英文表达更加通顺、有条理。


老师们说


Kim

Well, it is hard to do something in ten minutes. You know, it is hard to make the things that I want to express to my students.

My choice of topic is based on whether to go through multiple neighboring countries. If not, I will choose a topic and ask questions around it for students to answer; If I pass through many neighboring countries, I will find some photos, set special situations and start a dialogue around them.

To learn English well is to love English and be interested in it. Nowadays, the problem for many students to learn English is that they regard learning English as a tool to pass the exam rather than a window to understand the world. It's not good.

It's important to speak more English. Don't stop speaking English because you are shy or worried about your pronunciation. That's a bad habit. Only by speaking English can we make progress.


Tom

I do have the confidence of this tutorial; the participation of the students is active and initiative. They do prepare for the topic and that is really good for us to communicate, and I also will give some advice of grammar or phrase when they make speeches in common lives.

My only hope is that if the students I am talking to are able to consistently participate, then I can see their progress, and more effective programs targeted at individuals. Therefore, if the students can keep coming, the communication between me and each student will be more efficient and high-quality, and the communication time between me and the students I am familiar with can be appropriately extended to achieve better results.

To improve the interest in English, my advice is that students must dare to speak, dare to express their own opinions, they can see their own progress, so that they will be more confident and interested.


Eddy

Students come to me for different needs. Some want to pass IELTS while others have already got the required score. I feel that if I know more about the students, I can tailor their needs more appropriately.

The topics are similar to the topics in Intermediate Spoken English offered at American Community College level. Newcomers who want to settle into Houston are using them to improve their spoken capabilities. So, you are getting the exercises here in Dalian the same way students are studying in the United States. And you get to be in the comforts of our beautiful campus.

Remember that learning a language is a lifelong learning process. Besides using it to do assignments and pass exams, it can be used to help the communication with teachers and classmates. I don't want to say broaden one's horizons. It is more important than that. Through communication, one can use English to survive and even thrive in difficult situations if one is willing to speak up and take the initiative.

I don't want to say reading books and watching movies can help in improving one's English although it can useful. The key is maintaining an interest. Be enthusiastic in learning the language and to set reasonable goals on what one wants to do. Like I am not an outgoing person but I will express my feelings in English so I can be more confident. Like this. A simple objective. Wake up with this same aim in the morning and you may change your attitude, so you feel better and you want to learn better.

周四 下午 6:00-8:00(Tom);

周五 下午 2:00-4:00(Eddy);

每组12人,每人十分钟,按报名顺序进行。


报名方式


周二(Kim)的交流活动请在土木二班王佳琪同学处报名;周四(Tom)和周五(Eddy)的交流活动请在电信二班郭衍鹭处报名。


活动对象


休斯顿国际学院全体学生。周二(Kim)仅针对Kim老师授课的班级(土木一班、土木二班、机械二班),周四(Tom)和周五(Eddy)不限专业。
