Hello, it’s really my honor to have this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Zhang Yichi，I'm in Civil Engineering Class ONE. I come from Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province. I’m an open-minded, quick in thought and humorous student. In my spare time, I like to practice calligraphy which I think could help me know more about our culture and cultivate my peaceful character. I am very glad to meet so many new friends today, and I’m strongly convinced that our life in international institute will be foreseeable.
Topic：The better us, the bigger world
Good morning, dear professors and students:
I’m very glad to stand here and give you a short speech. Today my topic is “The better us, the bigger world ”. I hope you will like it.
My senior high school life has already finished and in this autumn I’ll give my life a new start in Dalian Maritime University. It’s my great honor to have the chance to study in Houston International Institute of Dalian Maritime University.
At first, I’d like to share some ideas about college life of mine. I’m the kind of people who like to make daydream. I’ve assumed many cases of the future of my life in the university. And now it’s time to experience the real college life in person. The college life is fresh, new teachers, new classmates and new friends. I like the friendship, and their wide knowledge and opening mind. The grand library, school buildings and wide playground attract me very much. My college life will be better than l have expected. Therefore as a novice, I need to make full use of these resources to help me to reach the next new peak in my life.
Let’s back to the topic of our forum - “Start here, Go anywhere”. In my view, our college offers us the level, chances and academic assistance which support us to get more and more progress in study and have a better understanding of life and world. What’s more, just like the old saying goes “The first youth is god given; the second youth is to rely on their own efforts.” The university has already provided us the platform to develop and then the task for us is just to make the first step. “Start here” means that this is a new beginning of joining the society. And in my mind I prefer to think of anywhere as not only the countries in the world but also a higher altitude we’ve ever reached. Honestly speaking, this is one of the reasons why I chose to study in international institute. I want to go further and broaden my horizons.
“Sharp tools make good work.” before we start our first year of university, it’s necessary to make a good plan. As for me, I set several goals to reach in this semester, for example improving my English and get 6.5 in IELTS, taking up a new hobby and strengthen my body. However, “To be both a speaker of words and a doer of deeds” while making plans; we need to put them into action. Some of my upper classmate told me not to think I could relax, besides studying well in college, I should learn to get along with others and treat the competition correctly.
How can we go anywhere in the world? We need to make ourselves more involved in the world. Today's world is more competitive and has more opportunities, but the distribution of resources is uneven. If we cannot timely perfect ourselves, plump our wings, then we cannot reach the distance. As new people, we have energy. If we can exert our potential from this new starting point, we can go further and more steadily.

Hello everyone, my name is Chengping Bi, from Mechanical Engineering. Please allow me to take a brief moment and introduce myself. I have practicing taekwondo and the piano for 15 years. Now, I am Four Dan black belt in taekwondo and 10 level in piano. I have also developed a passion for broadcasting since high school. I had the honor of presiding the military training performance and I was a proud member of the campus radio station. And above all, I have a profound interest in languages, so besides English, I have studied Korean and Spanish for a period of time. My motto is, perseverance prevails. Keep doing it, and you will succeed.
Topic: Reach for the sea of stars and beyond - Start Here, Go Anywhere
While I am about to become a student of the Houston International Institute, Dalian Maritime University, I sincerely feel very honored and delighted. At the very beginning of my university life, I am looking forward to the four years of learning and experience. I hope that my college years will be even more fulfilling and meaningful than my wildest dreams.
To enrich my university life,I think it is essential to make a reasonable plan from three aspects, life, study and ideals.
Life
College life is completely different from high school, it is the beginning of our independence. Without our parents and familiar friends, how can we plan our own daily life well?
We should develop good living habits, which is conducive to our study and life. With a well-established routine, twice as much can be accomplished with half the effort. To develop good living habits, here are some suggestions. Balance the time of work and rest reasonably, form a good work and rest system; Do appropriate physical exercise and recreational activities; Ensure the supply of nutrition, develop good eating habits; Refuse to indulge in computer network games or develop other bad habits.
Study
Freshmen may feel at a loss because they do not know how to study in a new environment. Therefore, understanding the university environment is the prerequisite for developing correct learning methods. According to the characteristics of university environment, we'd better pay attention to the following points in our study:
1. From dependence to independence. University teachers would not force students to learn, that is to say, learning is based on their own initiative. We should make greater use of our time.
2. Use the library intelligently. The serenity at a university library coupled with the studiousness of others may serve as great motivators for us to learn more.
3. Learn to seek knowledge online. The internet is an open source of information, that is diversified and up-to-date . So we must make good use of the network, to access timely, comprehensive, realistic knowledge.
Ideals
With a special mood, I am going to enter the university gate. College is the best time to exercise and improve the ability. Therefore, college life must be well planned and each step must be taken carefully. Here is my ideal plan:
1. Strengthen the study of professional knowledge, master the necessary professional skills.
2. Develop a good habit of reading, arm myself with knowledge, purify my mind, and improve my spiritual state
3. Strive for party membership
4. Take part in at least three large-scale competitions and try to gain certificates
5. Get scholarships
6. Pass the IELTS exam
7. Pass Cet-4 and Cet-6
8. Strive for postgraduate recommendation
Above are my goals for the college years. In my opinion, there will always be results if we are determined to push forward.
Start here, go anywhere. Houston International Institute, Dalian Maritime University is a place where your dream starts, it should not be the place where your time is spent idly. Here is the place where you prepare, and the world will be your stage. Chase your dreams, the sea of stars will be waiting for you!

Distinguished teachers, seniors and classmates, I am more than delighted to have an acquaintance with you at Dalian Maritime University and start a brand new college life. My name is Rongkun Wang, a freshman from Jilin Province. Keenly interested am I in the campus life that I want to share something about myself with you. Frankly speaking, there are more vessels that need filling than wood that needs igniting. I may not be the type of people who put forward the conversation or amaze everybody, but I am the category of person who animate the atmosphere. Supposed you do not mind it, you can appreciate the beauty of science, speak glowingly of philosophy or just play basketball with me. Of course, I would be cordially glad if you’d like to have a chat with me on cartoon or martial arts. You will gradually find me an interesting man. Hope we are capable to enjoy our study career in DMU!

Topic: From here to the world
Good morning, distinguished teachers and dear classmates. My name is Rongkun Wang, a freshman from Jilin province. Today, I am with great honor to deliver my statement in this circumstance. Time flies irrevocable. Now we are stepping into university, it seemed like yesterday that we were still high school students struggling for our future and taking the National College Entrance Examination. However, the moment we received the admission letter, we have already been college students carrying dreams for lives and enthusiasm for our university. The arrival of campus life will be brilliant, in which we are capable to embrace new thought, receive profound knowledge and start a wonderful journey.
As a member of Dalian Maritime University, not only am I keenly interested in the university, but also extremely confused about the coming life. From now on, we are supposed to weather the storm by ourselves. There are still a various of obstacles that we should take over along the way to success, what we need to do is to believe in ourselves.
Houston International Institute is a fire-new environment, gathering extra-ordinary professors, excellent resource and a variety of talents, which indicates that we ought to engage ourselves in improving our abilities on the access to the bright future. The College Entrance Exam has taught us there is no royal road to learning. It is a necessity of us to keep diligent in the following four years.
It is easy to say but hard to practice, facing the colorful life in university, we may be confronted with what we can do in the large amount of time, we may even forget what we have swore to do. In view of the above reasons, setting an apparent goal for the long term is particularly significant for us. It is high time to study if we are not talented enough, it is high time to devoted ourselves in learning if we can not achieve our goal yet. As far as I am concerned, there are some advisable things that we can do in the following campus life.
First of all, it is essential to dream with fearless and put it into practice. The dream may not be that great but should be doable, it lies in the ordinary world. Shizhen Li spent 27 years completing the Compendium of Materia Medica. He devoted half of his life into that dream. A freshman’s dream may not be that splendid, but we are supposed to come down to earth and fight for our future. At least, when we look back at the college lives, we would have no regrets for the time we wasted nor shall we feel ashamed of not accomplishing anything.
Secondly, continue to explore and eager to innovate. What matters is not only knowledge but also creation. On the one hand we should have a good command on the field we have learned, on the other hand we should apply it to reality. It is meaningless to restrict ourselves to what we have learned. A senior of mine created holographic laser projection just with the knowledge that he learned in Chinese Physics Olympiad. His achievement should give credit to his innovation. From my perspective, it is more vital to strengthen our capability rather than learn any category of knowledge. Our future lies in the way of creation, dare to think is the method to success.
Furthermore, there is no remarkable person without noble morality, in the following four years, it is a necessity of us to restrain our behavior. Meanwhile, we are supposed to improve our morals and ethics, which is beneficial to our personality. The aim of university is not only train talents,but also cultivate well-rounded person.
As a member of Houston International Institute, it is our responsibility to possess both international vision and patriotism. We may dedicate our talents to the humanity, but the country comes the first. I hope that one day we are able to ordain conscience for heaven and earth, to secure life and fortune for the populace, to carry on lost teachings of ancient sages, to build peace for posterity.
With the assistance of prominent teachers, leaders and our seniors, it is high time for us to aspire to study, win honor for our school and strive for our country!
