Roberto Ballarini

受聘为休斯顿国际学院美方院长

Roberto Ballarini教授，2014年至今任休斯顿大学卡伦工学院土木与环境工程系主任，时任美国明尼苏达大学（University of Minnesota）土木工程系主任。1980年，取得纽约城市大学（City College of New York）土木工程学士学位，并于1981年和1985年分别获得美国西北大学（Northwestern University）硕士和博士学位。他的研究成果涉及多个领域，包括土木、机械、航空、生物医学、化学、材料工程等领域的材料和结构的理论力学实验和计算。Roberto Ballarini于2019年被授予Raymond D. Mindlin奖章（哥伦比亚大学为纪念已故学者、美国力学家Raymond D. Mindlin而设置），并于2021年获评美国土木工程师学会（ASCE）的杰出人物。

· 2017年4月

4月24日上午，Roberto Ballarini讲座教授聘任仪式在大连海事大学综合楼举行，时任副校长刘正江出席聘任仪式，并为Roberto Ballarini教授颁发聘书、佩戴校徽。

· 2017年4月

4月26日上午，大连海事大学-休斯顿大学合作项目签约仪式在综合楼917会议室隆重举行，Roberto Ballarini教授参加会议。

· 2018年6月-7月

6月26日至7月6日，Roberto Ballarini教授为我校师生作“Fracture and Fatigue”主题讲座。同期，他联合孙力教授在我校开设小学期全校任选课程“国外学习方法导论（理工类）”。该次授课是我校在小学期设置外籍教授学分课的首次有益尝试，学生选课积极踊跃，课后反馈良好。

· 2019年6月

6月22日至30日，Roberto Ballarini教授来校开展系列讲座活动。通过系列讲座，介绍美国高等教育体系和休斯顿大学，就大学生活和学术研究等话题与学生进行深入交流。访问期间，举行休斯顿大学联合培养项目座谈会，对项目学生进行了行前指导。

· 2019年9月

9月15日至18日，美国休斯顿大学校长Renu Khator一行七人来访我校。此次访问，以“国际化办学，共享式发展”为主题，双方进行了合作办学签约、讲座教授聘任以及文化交流等系列活动，Roberto Ballarini教授随行参加。

· 2020年5月

5月23日，我校举行首批休斯顿大学联合培养项目学生线上毕业仪式，两校相关学院教师线上参加，包括Roberto Ballarini教授。

· 2021年1月

1月25日，休斯顿国际学院召开了中外合作办学专业的双方教学负责人线上研讨会。休斯顿大学卡伦工学院土木工程系主任Roberto Ballarini、我校交通运输工程学院副院长李晓飞、教师张鹏出席了会议。

· 2021年6月

6月1日，Roberto Ballarini受聘为休斯顿国际学院美方院长。

6月3日，休斯顿国际学院召开引进课程《物理实验》筹备研讨会。院长张金蕾、美方院长Roberto Ballarini、外方授课教师、中方助课教师、双方助教及教学秘书参加了线上会议，会议由中美双方院长共同主持。

Message from Roberto Ballarini

It is with great pleasure that I start my service as the Director of the University of Houston (UH) Institute at Dalian Maritime University (DMU). I promise each one of you that I will serve all of the students, faculty and staff in Dalian to the best of my abilities. The Institute is a very exciting new initiative whose sole purpose is to provide a high-quality American-style engineering education to bright, hard-working and wonderful students on a Chinese campus. This professional challenge was reason enough for me to accept the role to lead the effort in Houston. But there is more to the story. Since my first visit in 2017, DMU and the city of Dalian have become sort of a second home to me. I cherish my friendship with the staff (who I named “The Dream Team”), faculty and leadership with whom I have collaborated over the past four years, and I hope to see them again soon and to meet every student enrolled in the Institute. The world-wide pandemic has been a formidable challenge to everyone across the Globe, and it prevented the face-to-face teaching that forms the basis of the Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering degrees offered through the Institute. But rest assured that the pandemic will pass, and soon enough the teaching will proceed as originally planned. Please note that the DMU staff is scheduling a June 16 virtual meeting between me and the students in the first cohort, so that I can personally congratulate them on their successful first year and field whatever questions and/or concerns they may have. I end this message while counting the days until I return to Dalian.

我十分荣幸能够成为休斯顿国际学院美方院长！在此向大家承诺，我将尽我所能地服务好大连的每一位师生员工。休斯顿国际学院的成立令人振奋不已，它致力于为敏而好学的优秀学生在中国大连的校园里提供高质量的美国工程教育。

美方院长这一角色对我来说是一次职业上的挑战，我没有理由拒绝，但是我们的故事远不止如此。2017年，在我第一次访问大连的时候，大连海事大学和大连这座城市就成了我的第二个家。在过去的四年里，我无比珍惜与我共事过的领导、教师和团队(我称之为“梦之队”)之间的深刻友谊。我迫不及待马上见到他们，也期待见到学院的每一位学生。

一场世界范围内的疫情对所有人来说都是一项艰巨的挑战，它阻碍了学院土木工程、机械设计制造及其自动化、电子信息工程专业的线下教学安排。但请放心，疫情终将过去，教学工作很快即可按原计划进行。请注意，休斯顿国际学院将于6月16日召开2020级学生线上见面会，会上我将为学生送上我的祝福，为其答疑解惑、排忧解难。

先说到这吧，已经开始期待在大连与你们重逢！
